The varieties we develop at Agri Obtentions are the foundation of sustainable agriculture, relying on tangible elements such as productivity, quality, and the pursuit of consistency in yield. Our seeds are selected for their tolerance to diseases, resistance to water stress and drought, as well as for better nitrogen efficiency, thus contributing to the effectiveness and sustainability of agricultural practices.
With the goal of promoting sustainable agriculture, we optimize new cultivation systems for our clients. In doing so, we aim to meet the needs of farmers and agricultural value chains by promoting methods that respect the environment and ensure the long-term viability of our agricultural lands.

RESEARCH HUB: LESS PESTICIDES, MORE GENETICS AND AGRONOMY
In order to promote sustainable agriculture, Agri Obtentions selects 15 species, mainly self-pollinating.
The main selection criteria are:
– productivity
– quality
– the pursuit of yield consistency
– tolerance to diseases, water stress, and drought, as well as better nitrogen efficiency.
Subsequently, we aim to optimize new cropping systems. This is to meet the needs of farmers and agricultural enhancement sectors.

STRAW CEREALS
- Soft wheat, Triticale, Winter barley, Fodder and malting barley, Durum wheat

Agri Obtentions relies on three major sources to fuel its varietal portfolio promoting sustainable agriculture:
Under the responsibility of the BAP Department (Biology and Plant Improvement), INRAE programs offer pathways for genetic innovations in both major crop species and horticultural species. These programs are primarily focused on researching disease resistance and the performance of varieties in situations with reduced inputs.
- Agri Obtentions Programs: Led by the Agri Obtentions Research Directorate, these programs directly incorporate market needs. The major goals are to provide high-performing, quality varieties with good resistance to biotic stressors to meet the expectations of the sectors.
- Partnerships: Numerous partnership agreements exist between INRAE and Agri Obtentions and institutes and breeders worldwide. These exchanges of skills and materials allow us to test our partners’ varieties and validate their performance under our growing conditions.
- Evaluation Network: In addition to selection work in laboratories and nurseries, research also relies on a field evaluation network. These numerous sites allow for assessing new varieties in all major production areas in France and for export.
Production Hub: 3 Major Goals to Develop Sustainable Agriculture
Seed production at Agri Obtentions meets 3 major objectives:
QUANTITY
The primary goal is to increase the volumes of the first generations of basic seeds to ensure a sufficient supply and thus quickly disseminate the genetic progress of new varieties.
QUALITY
This essential concept revolves around two parameters:
- Purity, a guarantee of security in ensuring a seed conforms to the created variety
- Germination capacity, another determining factor to ensure production for the farmer.
TRACEABILITY
A key element in transferring genetic progress, continuous monitoring at each stage is ensured for all generations from variety creation to the certified seed provided to the farmer.
To meet this triple requirement, seed production relies on:
- A network of multiplying farmers (about a hundred farmers across the territory)
- A professional team, under the responsibility of a production director. The team of technicians ensures the monitoring and control of multiplication plots.
- A modern plant, located in Guyancourt (78), equipped with specific equipment to ensure the sorting, treatment, and packaging of certified seeds of all our species.
- A control laboratory to validate the quality and traceability of seeds at each stage of production up to certification. This laboratory, equipped with the CERTISEM software, is accredited and authorized by the SOC for many species.
- Close partnerships with several seed establishments.
Commercialization Hub: Enhancing Genetic Progress for Sustainable Agriculture
Variety Enhancement: The enhancement of Agri Obtentions varieties is primarily achieved through the granting of licenses for the production and sale of certified plants and seeds. Seed companies ensure the production and distribution of certified plants or seeds that guarantee purity, germination ability, and traceability. The genetic progress brought by new varieties is thus quickly offered to farmers.
Delegations: The development of hybrids, certain forage species, and horticulture is carried out through the delegation of varieties to direct market actors. For more information, see the varieties.
To ensure the rapid and effective development of new varieties, the communication service provides users with all the information through numerous supports. All technical data and cultivation methods for the varieties are compiled in technical sheets or dossiers available for each novelty on this site.
Development Department: Ensuring the Quality of Offered Varieties
The mission of the development department is to ensure the link between research and commercialization. It allows for the validation of the adaptation of new varieties to local conditions and needs. This phase is essential in understanding any new variety before its commercial launch.
Agri Obtentions has equipped itself with specialized engineers who ensure the referencing and development of the range with the technical services of distribution and industry professionals in various sectors.
